Ridgway Reservoir Plane Crash Victims + Wreckage Recovered [PHOTOS]

The small plane that crashed into the Ridgway Reservoir near Ouray, Colo. on March 22 was pulled from the icy waters yesterday (March 27) and the five victims have been identified.

The plane was en route from Gadsden, Ala. to Montrose when it spun out of control and crashed into Ridgway Reservoir around 2 pm on Saturday afternoon. Due to the depth of water and limited visibility recovery efforts were postponed until authorities could get a specialized dive team in for help.

The team of specialilzed divers from Beegles Aircraft Service Inc. in Greeley, Colo. latched onto the 5,000-pound plane so it could be hauled from nearly 60 feet of water and its resting place in three foot of silt.

The victims were identified as Jimmy L. Hill, 48; his cousin Seth McDuffie, 14; Katrina Vinzant Barksdale, 40; and her two sons, Xander, 8, and Kobe, 11. All victims were from Alabama.

Marti Whitmore, a spokeswoman for Ouray County Sheriffs Office told the Denver Post, ‘a cause is not expected soon.’

In a press release from Ouray County Emergency Management Facebook states, “From this point forward, the NTSB and FAA will take charge of the investigation of the crash. The plane has been secured for the investigation.”
