In one of the most interesting enhancements of guest experience in the skiing world, Steamboat resort offers the chance to ski with a medal winning Olympian for free, almost every day of the ski season. Billy Kidd is Director of Skiing at Steamboat and is the first American to win an Olympic medal in alpine skiing. The guy is kind of a big deal, but you'd never know it from the way he carries himself. He is personable, easy to talk to and engaging.

Almost every day at 1pm, anyone who wants to can meet Billy Kidd for an actual lesson. He guarantees that he'll get you that much closer to becoming an Olympic medal winner and after the lesson he even gives you tips on what to say in your post race interview (it involves giving him almost all the credit for the win).

Billy works with anyone who wants to take the clinic on simple ways to improve their skiing, whether they are racers or are just looking for fun

When I showed up for the clinic, I wasn't expecting to learn as much as I did. I thought it would be a simple meet and greet with a few stories about the Olympics, a few laughs, and the chance to say "I've skied with an Olympian", but in truth, I learned so much! Billy focused on a few simple things that will improve anyone's skiing. He gave us tips starting with how we stand, and this led to the focus on how we ski.

As a skier of over 30 years experience, I was surprised how much Billy Kidd's simple tips really did help my skiing

When I came up with the idea for this experiential blog post, I thought the theme would be "Here's how you can ski with an Olympic medal winner". Having experienced it, I have to change that to "Here's how you can learn more about skiing from an Olympic medal winner", because I did learn quite a bit about skiing.

At the bottom of the mountain, Billy instructed us on how to do a proper finish line interview and then posed for pictures
