I wish I had played a little less football in the yard with my friends in fifth grade, and taken piano lessons instead. Now, of course there’s no way anyone could have convinced me of that in 1974. (In fact, my inner child is on the floor right now rolling around in laughter!) Today I find myself with virtually no musical talent. I don’t even subject the bottle of shampoo to my singing. I wish I had stuck with those piano lessons. Oddly enough, all of my front-yard football didn’t land me a position in the NFL either. I wish I knew then, what I know now.

How many times have we said, heard, or thought those words? I wish I knew then, what I know now. Would be powerful to have that kind of vision, right? Well, it takes some thinking, imagining, planning, and dreaming, but we all do have it.

Where do you want to be at some point in the future? A week from now, month, year, or more? When you get to that point in time, it will obviously be too late to start working towards the goal. Which of course means that today would be the right time to start. Sounds like a pretty simple idea, but it’s likely a little tougher to envision and move forward on or we’d all be better at doing it.

There’s a sign that hangs in our office that says, “Three months from now, what will you wish you had started today?”
