My grandfather used to say, "Anything worth doing is worth doing well." Seth Godin puts it like this, "If you don't think you have the time to do it right, what makes you think you'll have time to do it over?" Two different reasons for doing something well the first time. One is about taking pride in what you do, and the other is about time management.

I would prefer to be known as the guy who when he does something, nobody needs to (or can) come in and do it better. That's pride.

When I take my dog running, I stop and pick his poop up with a little bag. I have found that on my run it is far better to go all the way to the trash can and make a layup with the poop bag, instead of trying to make a three-pointer from way out, missing it, then having to go back over to the trash can for the rebound and drop it in. That's time management.

We don't always get it right the first time, but it seems to me that we should at least be trying. I'm not sure we do. 'Good enough' is the enemy of 'good.'
