I had dinner with a friend last week who likely has a secret mantle full of trophies for all kinds of competitions he has won for being the worlds biggest worrier. I mean really. Worry about work, about family, about world peace, about the weather, about the economy, about Iraq, about Iran, about how his meat is cooked, about health care reform, about…

For crying out loud! Stop it! You’re making me crazy with all the worry. My guess is that he watches too much CNN or FOX News Channel (or the Weather Channel for that matter.) They are in the business of getting us to worry. The more we worry, and the more they feed that worry, the more we need them so that we can stay on top of all the things we should be worrying about.

Stop it!

There’s two kinds of things in this world. There are the things you can do something about, and the things you can’t do anything about. No sense in worrying about the things you can’t do anything about, because you can’t do anything about them. And no sense worrying about the things you can do something about, because you can do something about those.

Worrying is a complete waste of energy. Far better to spend that energy on one of those things that you’re worrying about – that you can do something about.

(And by all means don’t start your day by turning on CNN, MSNBC, or the FOX News Channel. It’s not good for you.)
