A partial train derailment last night caused a several hour closure of Highway 257 at Ash and Birch Streets in Windsor. Seven to ten cars carrying a non-hazardous material came off the tracks. The cause of the derailment has not been identified at this time. The Windsor Police Department asks the public to stay away from accident site as crews work to safely remove derailed cars and material today.

Windsor, CO – A partial train derailment on September 30, at approximately 7:10 p.m., necessitated a two to three hour closure of 6th & Ash St. and 6th & Birch St., as well as Hwy 257 at Ash and Birch St., as nearly seven to ten cars carrying a non-hazardous material came off the tracks.
No injuries or property damage were reported and the cause of the derailment has not been identified at this time.
While impacted intersections will re-open tonight, cleanup of the derailed cars will not commence until tomorrow.
In the meantime, the Windsor Police Department would like to ask the public to stay away from accident site as crews work to safely remove derailed cars and material.
