Prospect will be undergoing major renovations over the next two years.

It will result in easier access all around, but in the meantime, we are going to be seeing significant slowdowns in some areas, especially around the bigger projects.

According the City of Fort Collins website, the changes will be rolled out slowly so they don't impact everywhere all at once. Here's how they will look.

City Utilities Contributions
Funding: Fort Collins Utilities Stormwater Fund and Boxelder Stormwater Authority
Budget: $4M

Timeline:

  • Utility Relocation (minor impacts to traffic): December 2015 – May 2016
  • Construction (closures and detours): June  – August 2016

Prospect and Timberline Intersection Improvements
City Engineering Department

The project will include:

  • Curb, gutter and sidewalk improvements along the west side of Timberline
    • Relocation of two silos to the Southeast Community Park
  • Landscaped medians on Timberline
  • A “Free Right” turn from eastbound Prospect to southbound Timberline
  • Pork Chop islands (pedestrian refuge areas) at the intersection
  • Multi-modal facility improvements to create a safer and more efficient intersection for all users

Upon completion, the Prospect and Timberline intersection will have improved safety and overall efficiency for vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians; improved air quality by reducing vehicle wait time and major landscaping improvements to the surrounding medians and parkways.

Timeline (construction): April – September 2016
Funding: 2005 voter-approved Building on Basics (BOB) quarter cent sales tax
Budget: $5 M

The entire intersections at Timberline and further west on Prospect at College Ave, and these are probably going to cause the most traffic issues.

Prospect Street Maintenance
City Streets Department

Prospect Road will be due for concrete repairs and asphalt maintenance from Shields to the Great Western Railroad during the construction of many of these coordinated efforts. Phased street repairs will begin in June 2016 and will be completed in August 2017 to best coincide with other construction efforts on Prospect.

This work will correct poor drainage, trip hazards and provide key ADA updates to the sidewalk system.  The asphalt resurfacing will extend the life of the pavement and improve ride quality.

Phase 1: Remington to Great Western Railroad
* May change based upon College and Prospect intersection improvements footprint

  • Concrete Repairs: April – May 2016
  • Asphalt Paving:  June – July 2016
