Red Rocks Named the Best Amphitheater in America by ‘Rolling Stone’

Red Rocks/Facebook

Living in Colorado is great for more reasons than I have time to explain, but one is the ability to drive to the greatest place in America to see a concert. People make trips just to come see a show here, and we have it in our backyard. Now, I may be a little biasis towards Red Rocks since I live here, but it seems some pretty important people agree with me… Rolling Stone Magazine.

Rolling Stone recently put together their list of the 10 best amphitheaters in America, and no surprise to those of us who call Colorado home, Red Rocks was named #1.

The rest of the list went like this…

10. Ravinia, Chicago

9. Greek Theatre, Berkeley, California

8. Nikon at Jones Beach Theatre, Wantagh, New York

7. Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, California

6. Alpine Valley Music Theatre, East Troy, Wisconsin

5. Greek Theatre, Los Angeles

4. Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia, Maryland

3. Gorge Amphitheatre, George, Washington

2. Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles

1. Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Morrison, Colorado

The article described Red Rocks like this -

This dramatic natural venue just outside Denver – named after the two huge boulders that frame its borders – can elevate a good show into a totally unforgettable night. With the exception of Madison Square Garden, no U.S. venue of this size has such an amazing pedigree: The Beatles in 1964, Jimi Hendrix in 1968, Bruce Springsteen in 1978, and so many more. Pearl Jam played Red Rocks exactly once, in 1995, and they still haven’t stopped talking about it. “It was just stunning,” says guitarist Mike McCready. “We were never able to get there [again]. I don’t know why. I want to go back.”
