My first novel.

My goodness how I love saying those words! Through a series of apps, music and kids books, I have evolved to release a novel. It's fiction for tweens and teens, and it is about my greatest passion--the outdoors.

Morgan James Publishing’s (www.Morgan-James.com) new release Stranded in a Snowstorm provides kids with an exciting adventure story, but might also teach them a few lessons along the way.

Twelve-year-old Nico and Hannah, a college student who has been his babysitter since he was four, decide to go on a “technology free” overnight hiking trip in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. It’s almost summer, so they won’t be expecting any snow, right?

Apparently not.  Even though they checked the weather before they left, an unexpected snowstorm is rolling in. Both Hannah and Nico are skilled in the outdoors, but they still lack the equipment necessary to make it out of the storm safely.

Meanwhile back at home, Nico’s mom is frantically worrying about her son. When the police and firemen refuse to help her, she calls Paul, a good family friend who knows everything about the outdoors and the environment. Paul quickly agrees to help and gathers materials to head up the mountain. Will he make it there on time? Will Hannah and Nico be able to survive a fierce Colorado snowstorm?

Stranded in a Snowstorm is an action-packed novel that will keep kids flipping the pages. With Nico as the likable protagonist, kids will easily be able to identify with him and imagine themselves hiking along in the Colorado Rockies. I weave in survival tips as well as interesting facts about the universe and the environment to educate kids even while they are having fun. Explaining different features of the sports, he also describes skiing and snowboarding in a way that would make anyone jealous.

Geared toward kids between the ages of 7 and 12, Stranded in a Snowstorm will delight its tween audience and even older kids, as well as their parents.

The best part about creating this book was the melding of my true passions; skiing, the outdoors, camping, survival gear, nature, and creativity. I love writing, I love the outdoors, I love gear, and I love skiing, so writing about all of it was an amazing experience. I hope you'll find the book to be an amazing experience, too!

It is available on Barnes and Noble's website and at some Barnes and Noble locations.

You can find it there, or join me on November 22, 2014 at the Fort Collins Barnes and Noble store for a book signing and performance of the song from the book.
