Oprah Features Fairfield, Iowa’s Search for Utopia [VIDEO]

Oprah's Next Chapter took a look at Fairfield, Iowa. This is a town that has a stated goal of utopia. Their means of reaching it is based around the practice of Transcendental Meditation as taught by Mahareshi Yogi, the Indian spiritual leader who became famous in the late 60's for the work he did with the Beatles.

"America's Most Unusual Town" showed a cross-section of the town and spoke personally to many of its inhabitants. Oprah's cameras were allowed into a very restricted area where over 800 Indian men chant, pray and meditate daily with the goal of making world peace a reality.

Most residents in Fairfield stop everything that they are doing at 9am and 5pm and report to the dome for twenty minutes to two hours of silent meditation.

The culture is all pervasive, reaching into the K-12 school system and in many ways centering around the Mahareshi University of Management.
