Canyon Lakes Ranger District firefighters have burned over 14,200 slash piles across the district this winter in an effort to reduce hazardous fuels. With recent snows, crews plan to burn tomorrow and through the week depending on conditions. Burning could occur in one or more of the following locations:

• Fish Creek, located south of Estes Park along Highway 7;
• Stringtown West, located northwest of Masonville;
• Thompson River, located approximately 8.5 miles west of Loveland, near Pinewood Reservoir;
• and/or Grizzly Gulch, located south of Estes Park along Highway 36.

Each day conditions are evaluated to determine if ignition will take place. Wind, fuel moisture, staffing, and snow cover all play a factor in where and whether ignition occurs.
