They aren't predators, but they can be dangerous.

Any animal that weighs as much as an elk does is going to pose a threat to humans, and other animals for that matter.

Not to mention those horns. You know what they say about messing with the bull, right?

Well, a man had to be rushed to the hospital after tangling with an elk near the Estes Park Visitors Center on highway 34 over the weekend.

It's a tough thing, especially in places like Estes where elk wander through every part of the town. Some tourists may think that since they are in the town, they can't be dangerous. Not the case.

Estes isn't a controlled enviroment. It's a town in the mountains, and the creatures that roam the city are not mascots or pets.

As you can see in the video, the person who was hurt was entirely at fault in the interaction, and may face wildlife harrassment charges.
