Tuesday afternoon a bicyclist reported an overturned car in a canal off of Colo. 52 between Weld County roads 41 and 43, just west of Hudson. The green Jetta contained the body of a man who had been missing since Christmas. Brian Erive
of Fort Lupton was just 23-years-old.

According to a news release from the Fort Lupton Police Department his death is the subject of an ongoing investigation by the Colorado State Patrol.

Colorado State Patrol spokesperson Trooper Josh Lewis said that they believe Erives was driving west on Colo. 52 when the car veered off the left side of the road. The car struck a culvert near a canal not far from the road, then a gas pipe sign. The car then rolled onto its roof and came to rest in the canal itself.

Lewis said alcohol may be considered as a factor in the crash.

Ervies’ death is the fourth traffic-related fatality in Weld County so far this year. Through this date last year, three people had after crashes on Weld roads.
