Ah, Christmas. The time for giving, receiving, and getting scammed.

You may have seen a friend or two post something about the "Secret Sister Gift Exchange." This scam isn't new by any means, but it's making the rounds again on Facebook as it did last year.

According to America's self-proclaimed "Digital Goddess" Kim Komando, the Secret Sisters Gift Exchange asks you to purchase one $10 gift for someone else. In return, the scammer says you'll receive between 6 and 36 gifts for yourself.

Ooo presents! Sounds tempting, right?

Don't fall for it. This is similar to how a pyramid scheme works and is essentially a form of illegal gambling, according to the U.S. Postal Service.

Facebook posts you might see in your news feed would something like this:

Is anyone interested in a secret sister pre-holiday gift exchange?

It doesn't matter where you live - you are welcome to join. I need ladies of any age to participate in the gift exchange. You only have to buy ONE gift valued at $10 or more and send it to ONE secret sister. You'll receive 6-36 gifts in return!!!!

Let me know if you are interested and I'll send the information. Please don't ask to participate if you're not willing to spend $10.

Let me know if you're in and I'll PM you the details. :) This will be a lot of fun! It is only $10! It's like a stress reliever at your mailbox!

If you see a post like this, DO NOT SEND MONEY. Instead, report the Facebook post by clicking the downward pointing arrow in the top right corner of the post and hit "Report post" or "Report photo." Then, select the option that best describes the issue and follow Facebook's additional instructions.
