Tornado SirenIf you hear emergency alert sirens going off in Weld County Saturday morning, don't panic, it's just a test. According to the Greeley Tribune the Weld County Office of Emergency Management will test its emergency siren system at 10AM this Saturday. (May 18th, 2013)

The test will last for several minutes...The sirens are used to alert residents to seek shelter to protect themselves from severe weather, especially in the event of an approaching tornado.

The Office of Emergency Management recommends all households have a weather radio to receive weather alerts and other emergency information. For more information on preparing for severe weather, visit www.co.weld.co.us/Departments/OEM/

It's always a little eerie when those sirens go off, although, at least Weld County isn't testing their systems on the same day of the supposed Mayan Apocalypse, like the city of Denver did last year.
