As if Guillermo del Toro didn't already have enough going on, the Mexican filmmaker has announced he will be producing a 3-D stop-motion animated version of PinocchioCarlo Collodi's classic fairy tale about a wooden puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy.

According to Deadline, del Toro will be teaming up with the Jim Hensen company for the project, which will be a bit darker and scarier than previous versions.

"What we’re trying to do is present a Pinocchio that is more faithful to the take that Collodi wrote," del Toro said.  "That is more surreal and slightly darker than what we’ve seen before.”

Judging by the concept photos that accompany Deadline's article, this version of Pinocchio's adventure should be a unique movie experience, to say the least.

Below is an interview with del Toro.  He gives some great insights into his creative process.  He also talks about some of his other projects, including the hit Pan's Labyrinth.
