Governor Hickenlooper Reopens Hwy 36 Today

After the floods, we have reason to celebrate.  The opening of Hwy. 36 is a huge step for all of us as we recover from the devastation in September. I say ALL of us because this disaster brought out the best in our friends, neighbors, CDOT, and the National Guard.  They worked around the clock to get Hwy 36 open nearly a month ahead of schedule. This is BIG.

WHAT:  A ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the completion of the temporary repairs on U.S. 36 between Lyons and Estes Park. Since the historical floods in September, the National Guard and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) have been working together to rebuild a temporary road along U.S. 36 by December 1, 2013. Crews have completed the work nearly one month ahead of schedule allowing for increased connectivity to Estes Park and other communities.

WHO:  Governor John Hickenlooper will join Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) Executive Director Don Hunt, National Guard Brig. General Peter Byrne and representatives from Estes Park and Pinewood Springs.

WHEN:  Monday, November 4 at 10 a.m.

WHERE:  Apple Valley Bridge at the intersection of U.S. 36 and CR 71, in Lyons. Directions: Travel north/west on U.S. 36 for 2.5 miles. The Apple Valley Bridge is a large wooden bridge on left at CR 71.

VISUALS:  Following the ribbon cutting, nine cars representing Pinewood Springs/Elk Meadows and Estes Park will drive on U.S. 36 marking the official opening of the highway.
