The simple truth: Being distracted will cause you to not drive safely, and you have the power to NOT be distracted by your phone. This weekend, the Colorado State Patrol and the Colorado Department of Transportation will be out there looking for YOU being distracted by your phone!

It’s easy to get distracted while driving. Looking around at things alongside the road, singing to a song on the radio, the the kids screaming in the backseat. The last thing you need distracting you, is your phone. This weekend (March 21/22), ‘Get Your Head Out of Your Apps’ is the campaign you’ll be hearing and seeing about along the highways and interstates. CDOT and the State Patrol have teamed up to be on the lookout for distracted drivers.

I see a couple of veteran troopers sitting around talking about how they see distracted drivers and saying “Come on people, get your head out of your A@#!” “Wait, what if we said ‘Get Your Head Out Of Your APPS’ Get it?” “Good job, Mathews! Let’s run with it!”

No matter how they came up with it, whether you’re checking your phone for directions, texting, or fiddling to put on a song- you could easily get pulled over and fined $50-$100.

From ABC7News:

"Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of crashes on Colorado's roadways," said Colonel Scott Hernandez, Chief of the Colorado State Patrol. "Our troopers, in cooperation with our partners in law enforcement throughout Colorado, will be focusing on distracted driving through enforcement and education efforts. Driving is serious business, and should be the main focus of every driver when they are behind the wheel."

So, just a ‘heads-up’- Pay attention to the road, and not your phone. Save yourself a hassle, and maybe even a life. Enough said.

DRIVE SAFE!
