Hewlett Fire Burning West of Fort Collins in Poudre Canyon
There is a fire burning tin Poudre Canyon west of Fort Collins, it started about 1 p.m. Monday afternoon. The Hewlett Fire is estimated to be about 150-200 acres and is located northeast of Hewlett Gulch Trailhead, north of Highway 14 in the Poudre Canyon. Smoke is visible in and around Fort Collins, Loveland and Wellington.
5:38 p.m. – A pre-notification has been sent to residents from MM110 to MM115 1/4 mile north and south of the Poudre River to advise of wildfire and to be prepared to evacuate if needed.
5:36 p.m. – The Hewlett Gulch Trail and the Greyrock Trail are both closed. A Single Engine Air Tanker (SEAT) is on scene. Four 20-person crews, a Type 1 helicopter, and a heavy air tanker have been ordered. Structures are located near the fire, but none are immediately threatened. The fire is located less than one mile from Poudre Park. Residents from mile marker 110 – 115 1/4 mile north and south of Hwy 14 are being notified of the fire and should be prepared to evacuate if needed.
