7.5 million people in America have psoriasis, including 80’s Pop icon Cyndi Lauper.  It started in 2010 on the top of her head. She adjusted with wigs and dying her hair red. Then, the next time a flare-up occurred, it was all over her body.

Five years later, the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame member has battled immune system problems because of the disease, leaving her weak. She’s had special costumes made and used lots of makeup to help her feel ‘normal.’  She’s now taking a prescription drug to help her immune system, but Epsom Salt baths and lotions are her main defenses in fighting the disease.

She says she stays away from strawberries and anything with sugar, like alcohol, which helps.  She has now also joined up with the National Psoriasis Foundation to help others.

"You can't just lay in the dark and get depressed and feel like the disease has won. You can win, just get the information and get help – because suffering in silence really sucks."
