A young black bear was safely relocated on Friday after being spotted up in a tree in a western Fort Collins neighborhood.

Wildlife officers said the yearling bear had been hanging around the area of Stuart Street and Hampshire Road for several days, likely drawn by the large numbers of apple and pear trees in the area. A large crowd gathered Friday to watch as wildlife officer Chad Morgan shot the bear with a tranquilizer dart.

The bear was released into the mountains in West Larimer County, after receiving a microchip and tags.  Officials say if it makes its way into town again, unfortunately it will have to be euthanized.

Here's hoping it stays where it belongs!
