If you are bullying people because of their name, you are probably too stupid to know what an acronym is.

Allow me to explain. An acronym is formed when the first letter of numerous words that describe a person, place or thing are combined to form a new word of its own.Take one of the the English speaking world's favorite acronyms, scuba, which was never a word until someone got sick of saying "self-contained-underwater-breathing-apparatus". It took forever, so, in the interest of brevity, the acronym "scuba" was born.

I.S.I.S., referrring to the middle eastern militant group, is an acronym, standing for Islamic State in Syria. Moronic bullies, please reread the definition of acronym above.

Isis is a name. Historically, it has referred to an Egyptian goddess. For those of us in Northern Colorado events and media, we have a friend and colleague who bears this name. It's not totally uncommon.

Unfortunately, neither are snap judgements.

I spoke to my friend and colleague, Isis. She works for Mantooth Marketing company, and nothing about her would indicate that she is part of any group that hates Americans. If she hated Americans, she'd have to hate herself, because she is one, hailing from Littleton, CO.

Still, she's encountered people who react negatively to her name. One woman even made the sign of the cross as she backed away from her at a public event where Isis was wearing her name tag.
