The first freak of the 2014 Major League Baseball season didn't even involve a player.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim hitting coach, and former Colorado Rockies Manager (1993-1998) Don Baylor broke his leg catching  the ceremonial first pitch before the team's season opener Monday night versus the Seattle Mariners.

The team confirmed he broke his right femur while catching the pitch from former Angels great Vladimir Guerrero.

Don is a survivor of multiple myeloma, a cancer that attacks bone marrow. He was diagnosed with the cancer in 2003, and he is active in fundraising efforts to combat the disease.

It's the second bizarre broken leg injury suffered at home plate by the Angels. Back in 2010, Kendrys Morales fractured his right leg while celebrating a walk-off home run against -- you guessed it -- the Mariners. You can see that one below, under another video of Baylor's injury.
