Canyon Concert Ballet Presents The Nutcracker

Fort Collins, CO.  For over a century, The Nutcracker has enchanted generations of audiences worldwide. In Fort Collins families and friends can continue the holiday tradition by seeing Canyon Concert Ballet’s The Nutcracker, December 12 -14 2014 at The Lincoln Center, 417 West Magnolia, Fort Collins, CO 80521 with the Fort Collins Symphony.  Additional performances will be held November 29 at the Rialto Theatre, 228 E 4th St., Loveland, CO 80537.

This classic production, adapted and choreographed by Canyon Concert Ballet’s Artistic Director Daniel R. Simmons, features principal guest artist, Dmitry Trubchanov and members of Canyon Concert Ballet’s Company and more than 75 pre-professionals and students of the Canyon Concert Ballet.

The curtain opens to a Christmas Eve party in a Victorian home where Herr Drosselmeyer, magician and toymaker, gives Clara a toy Nutcracker and Clara’s brother Fritz a Toy Jack-In-The-Box. Drosselmeyer summons to life the Nutcracker and Toy Jack-In-The-Box, along with a beautiful Ballerina Doll. Both Nutcracker and Toy Jack-In-The-Box fall desperately in love with her. After a battle between Nutcracker and Toy Jack-In-The-Box, mice and militia, waltzing snowflakes sweep the audience to a magical Toy Kingdom. There, The Sugar Plum, her Prince and characters from around the world come to life—Dresden Porcelain Dolls, Chinese Dancers, Magic Flowers of Holland, Spanish Dancers and Mother Ginger and her little Buffoons.

“What makes this Nutcracker so special is the camaraderie between veteran dancers, professionals and young students,” said Simmons. “I have Canyon Concert Ballet’s youngest students dancing alongside CCB Pre-Professionals and Company dancers. I am committed to bringing every young student to the stage, allowing them to experience the theater. Being onstage is a vital part of learning the craft of dance. There is no better ballet than The Nutcracker to allow that to happen.”
