The 2013 Golden Globe Nominees!
The Golden Globes are on tonight! They’re more fun than the Oscars, right? Do you know who’s nominated?
Daniel Day-Lewis is up for Best Actor in a Motion Picture (drama) for being under the delusion that he’s actually Abraham Lincoln, while Hugh Jackman garnered a Best Actor in a Motion Picture (musical or comedy) nomination for his singing and acting chops in ‘Les Mis.’
Best Actress in a Motion Picture (musical or comedy) noms go to Jennifer Lawrence for ‘Silver Linings Playbook,’ who will be fighting it out with heavy hitters Meryl Streep (‘Hope Springs‘), Dame Judi Dench (‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’), and Dame Maggie Smith (‘Quarter’).
As expected, Anne Hathaway was rewarded for taking on a mantle of ugly to play a tuberculosis-ridden prostitute in ‘Les Miserables’ and snagged a nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role alongside Sally Field in ‘Lincoln’ and Nicole Kidman for her animated role in ‘The Paperboy.’ (Yes, Kidman was nominated for the work of a cartoon character.)
Serial-modelizer Leonardo DiCaprio will be going head-to-head with his ‘Django Unchained’ co-star Christoph Waltz for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, while Quentin Tarantino, Steven Spielberg, Ben Affleck, Kathryn Bigelow and Ang Lee are all up for Best Director honors.
Television shows up for Globes include the dramas ‘Breaking Bad,’ ‘Boardwalk Empire,’ ‘Downton Abbey,’ ‘Homeland’ and ‘The Newsroom,’ and the comedies ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ ‘Episodes,’ ‘Girls,’ ‘Modern Family’ and ‘Smash.’
This year’s ceremony will be co-hosted by the hilarious Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, so it should be slightly more exciting than usual. Bonus: They’re both nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series (comedy), so we’ll see how they handle that.
The Globes will air live tonight on Channel 9 (NBC) at 8 p.m. Since the booze flows freely for attendees, it’s normally a fun show to watch. But if you can’t tune in, don’t worry — everyone on Twitter will be happy to live-tweet it for you.
