(Update 10-19-14) The driver of a white truck that caused the accident that shut down both directions of I-25 Saturday afternoon (October 18) is being investigated by CSP for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Now that Emergency crews have had time to sort through the wreckage, it has now been confirmed that the accident involved 6 cars and seven people were injured. Originally it was being reported that there were up to twelve vehicles involved and there was at least one fatality. The white Ford truck that is being investigated was traveling southbound on I-25 when it slammed into the back of an SUV near the Mountain Vista exit, setting off a chain-reaction. Seven patients were taken to local hospitals, including an infant that was in the vehicle that was initially hit.

(10-18-14) CDOT is reporting southbound lanes of I-25 are closed 7 miles north of Harmony due to a multi-vehicle crash near the Mulberry exit that has resulted in at least one fatality. Emergency crews responded and a chopper has landed on scene. It is being reported by the Coloradoan that there is at least one fatality and traffic is being rerouted back to Mountain Vista.
