Much of Weld County was pounded by severe weather last night, which included tennis ball sized hail in some areas.

South of Greeley, in the Platteville area, 1-inch diameter hail was reported. In Mead, the hail reached 1.75 inches in diameter. In Firestone, the hail was as big as 2.5 inches, which is roughly the size of tennis balls..

Hail also fell in areas north of Greeley between about 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.  A severe thunderstorm watch was in effect until midnight for all of Weld County.

The forecast for today from the National Weather Service:

A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3pm. Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 72.
