Today, Highway 36 was completely closed just southeast of Estes Park between noon and 3pm. Though it's back open now, the closures and delays are far from over.
My parents live Southeast of Denver; and if I'm ever late for a visit with them (or just don't want to deal with traffic) I pony up a few bucks and take the E-470 tollway to get to their house. To me, it's well worth the cost of tolls not to sit in Denver traffic, at least every once in awhile (if it was part of my daily commute, I'm sure I'd feel differently). So, hypothetically, would I use a tollway to get to my favorite vacation area of the mountains, and completely bypass stressful (and dangerous) mountain traffic? Absolutely.
I live right around Harmony Road in Fort Collins, so I know firsthand that traveling on that road can be anything but "harmonious." Good thing the city realizes that too, and is looking at making some big improvements.
With Highway 14 closing down for the next month to have a bridge replaced, it got us thinking: which other bridges on our neck of the woods need some work? Turns out, quite a few...
My commute between home and the gym only takes a few minutes, but it can still get frustrating. Specifically, I can't stand how Harmony Road shrinks from six lanes down to four right at that railroad crossing, west of Timberline Road. That area is a madhouse, especially during rush hour. So I'm relieved that road work this summer will finally fix this problem, but I'm not thrilled about Harmony being closed for the better part of a week!
