The Poudre River is flooding the Varra Gravel Pit in East Greeley. According to the City of Greeley Water Department and Weld County Emergency Management, the river is currently flowing into the pit. Once the pit is full, the water will begin to flow across the field toward the east and then back into the Poudre River.

Fern Ave. is closed between 8th Street and 16th Street. At this time,, there are no threats to homes in the area from this breach into the pit. First responders and emergency management personnel will continue to monitor the area throughout the day.

A Flood Warning is still in effect for the Poudre River through Weld County. You need to be aware of road closures, and if you live close to a river, be prepared to evacuate in case of an emergency alert.
