No Doubt stopped by ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’ on Thursday and showed they can deliver a live version of their new single ‘Settle Down’ that’s even stronger than the studio recording.

Perhaps due to the show’s top-notch sound quality, the song sounded sharper than it did during their comeback performance at the 2012 Teen Choice Awards, where they performed the track on tv for the first time. The background vocals and the pounding drums of Tony Kanal and Tom Dumont stood out much more in this setting. Gwen Stefani danced her way around the stage and sounded great as she tested the upper limits of her vocal range.

The band stuck with the neutral colors they rocked at the Teen Choice Awards but added some gray to their black and white wardrobe. Stefani covered up a bit more with a black suit jacket.

‘Settle Down’ is a song that sounds better with every repeated listen. It’s the lead single from ‘Push and Shove,’ the group’s first new studio album in forever. The song has entered the Top 40 on the Pop, Rock, and Alternative Songs charts, demonstrating its versatility and widespread appeal. Mark your calendars: ‘Push and Shove’ comes out Sept. 25.
