The Thompson School board is considering a 25 cent increase for breakfasts and lunches for all schools in the district to cover increased costs for food. The increase is needed to shorten the gap in the proposed budget, but it won't balance it.

According to the Reporter-Herald, proposed budget is expected to be $5.5 million in revenue and $5.6 million in expenses with an additional $100-thousand from the Nutritional Services reserve fund. Even with the 25 cent increase, the budget will not be balanced for next year. District officials insist on not going beyond 25 cents so that families that do not qualify for free or reduced priced lunches are not priced out.

According to the Reporter-Herald, If the increase is passed, school meals would go from $1.75 to $3.25 depending on the grade level.
