Last October, police responded to a report of a man with a gunshot wound to his head and burns on both head and body at McKee Medical Center. Further investigation led them to surveillance video at the Kum and Go gas station on Knobcone Drive with the victim in his truck when another vehicle parked in front of him. The occupant of the second car was Ryan Johnson, 30, of Loveland. The video showed Johnson going to the driver's side window of the victim's truck and shooting "a large puff of smoke and red flare" into the truck.

According to the Coloradoan, Johnson pleaded guilty this week to first-degree assault and was sentenced to 12 years in prison. While the story did not reveal the reason for the assault, it did say that police believe the suspect and the victim knew each other and that it was not a random incident.
