You know the rule, don't drink and drive, and always buckle up, pretty simple. The Larimer County Sheriff's Office will be conducting DUI patrols this Memorial Day weekend. The Sheriff has assigned extra deputies to patrol specifically looking for persons driving under the influence.

Our goals are to educate the public regarding the dangers of drinking and driving, and to prevent alcohol related traffic fatalities. On average a DUI can cost you more than $10,270 dollars in court fees, insurance premiums, alcohol education classes, the loss of your license and in some cases an ignition interlock that has to be installed in your car.

In addition to the "Heat is On" campaign, the Larimer County Sheriff's Office is also participating in the "Click It or Ticket" campaign designed to increase occupant safety, encourage seat belt use and save lives. Click It or Ticket is a nationwide campaign from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Seat belt use saves thousands of lives in Colorado and across America each year. Statistics show that in 2010 alone, seat belts saved an estimated 12,546 lives nationwide, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. During last year’s May Click It or Ticket enforcement period, 9,224 seat belt citations were written. The fine for a seat belt violation is $65.

Be safe, and enjoy the Memorial Day Weekend with your friends and family.
