A third grader was sent home from school because he wore Peyton Manning’s jersey to school. The number 18 is not allowed to be displayed on students’ attire because of the number’s affiliation to a local gang. The ban has been in place for four years as part of a dress code for all schools. Kids are not allowed to wear the numbers 13, 14, 18, 31, 41 or 81 to school, as they are all associated with Greeley’s three largest gangs. The 18th Street Gang, the Norteno Gang and the Sureno Gang have all been identified with those numbers. Some colors and color combinations are banned as well. As part of the District 6 dress code, kids are not allowed to wear trench coats, exposed undergarments, red or blue belts and shoe laces, according to the Greeley Tribune.
