Governor Hickenlooper Bans Colorado Prescribed Burns as Dry Conditions Continue

Gov. John Hickenlooper has suspended all Colorado prescribed burns in our state on Wednesday, after reviewing information from CSU, which oversees the Colorado State Forest Service. The Lower North Fork Fire burning south of Denver was determined to have been started by a prescribed burn that re-ignited days later has taken lives and destroyed homes.

Gov. Hickenlooper along with Colorado State University, which oversees the Colorado State Forest Service called for an independent review into the circumstances that led to the wildfire.

“We will conduct a thorough and comprehensive review of conditions across the state, as well as the protocols that have been utilized during the prescribed burns,” Hickenlooper said.
