Is it possible to earn too many distinctions?

Maybe not, but nowadays list posts are everywhere.

The Internet loves, and I mean LOVES lists. People especially love the 'Best Places to _____' and '5 Places with the Happiest People' type of lists. To a fault.

A wise person once said, "Consider the source." That wisdom is important in many more areas than just list posts, but it's the first thing I think whenever I see that Fort Collins has landed on another list. Consider the source.

Nothing against smaller websites, but since the Fort has already been on so many lists, I'm not going to bring up another one unless it comes from a major media outlet.

Well, have you heard of Gallup? How about the Today Show? Yes?

Me, too. Well, the Today show is reporting that a recent Gallup poll on well-being has chosen a list of cities that have the highest index in this category. And they have named Fort Collins as the fourth happiest and healthiest city in America. Number one went to Naples, Florida.

The top five U.S. communities with the highest well-being are:

1. Naples-Immokalee-Marco Island, Florida

2. Salinas, California

3. North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton, Florida

4. Fort Collins, Colorado

5. Barnstable Town, Massachusetts

How did they tally the results?

The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index uses a holistic definition of well-being and self-reported data from individuals across the globe to create a uniquely comprehensive view of societal progress on the elements that matter most to well-being: purpose, social, financial, community and physical.
