Fort Collins Cancels Schedule Mosquito Spraying

The bees and organically-minded are rejoicing in Fort Collins as those worried about West Nile virus are rehearsing the rules of the Four D's to fight off mosquitoes. This, after the City of Fort Collins announced the mosquito spraying scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 11 has been canceled.

The official press release says:

The latest trap data analyzed on Monday shows a considerable decline in the West Nile virus vector index, and therefore a decline in the public health risk.

The decision to cancel Wednesday’s spray operations follows the recommendation by the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment, in accordance with the City’s West Nile Virus Management Policy.

Spray operations on Sunday, Sept. 8 were significantly delayed and ultimately suspended due to inclement weather. Approximately one-third of the original spray zone was treated; a map of the areas that received treatment is available at www.fcgov.com/westnile.
