According to today's Coloradoan, the U.S. Forest Service has approved plans by the Eldora Ski Resort to move forward with an aggressive expansion for the mountain resort located just west of Boulder. It marks the end of an effort that spans the past year to make improvements to the mountain so it can better compete with other mountain ski areas.

Part of the expansion and improvement plans include:

- Replacement and new ski lifts

- 77 acres of tree and gladed skiing areas

- Modifications to about 42 acres of existing tree and gladed terrain

- A new lodge below the top of Indians Peak lift

- Expansion of the existing Lookout Lodge

A number of environmental groups have voiced their opposition to the plan, and groups have 45 days to voice any objections to the decision.
