I'm not exactly an avid bike rider, but that doesn't mean stories like this don't make me cringe.

Two cyclists in Laporte were hit by a car over the weekend.  According to the Coloradoan, one of them, Paul Bass, was still in the hospital in serious condition as of yesterday.

Bass and six other cyclists were northbound on Overland Trail on Sunday morning when a 1997 Chevy Lumina turned left onto County Road 54G, hitting two men at the front of the pack. The second cyclist hit refused medical treatment; Bass was taken by ambulance to Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland.

The Coloradoan also reports the 87-year-old driver of the Lumina was cited for careless driving resulting in injury.

The weather is getting warmer, folks.  Be on the lookout for those cyclists!  And if you're a cyclist: remember to obey traffic laws and be safe!
