Restructuring of the body first appeared in papyrus dating back to 2500 BC. It involved fixing a broken nose according to Wikipedia. Body parts were repaired by using other pieces of flesh throughout early history. Anesthesia doesn't show up until the mid-1800's, so the amount of pain endured during these early procedures must have been astounding.

When I remember first becoming aware of plastic surgery was when I was a teenager. It was all about face-lifts, thin noses, big lips and boob jobs (that's what we could them at first). Think Dolly Parton, Michael Jackson, Melanie Griffith. It seemed these procedures were always over-done. Celebrities who have enhanced or altered their appearance has been happening for a long time. Supposedly, Marilyn Monroe had chin work done and John Wayne had his face worked on quite a bit.

Okay, so here we are about to turn the calendar to 2016 and statistics are coming out that the fastest growing procedure in cosmetic work is, the big butt. There is the butt implant and the butt lift, these are now the number 2 and 3 fastest-growing types of plastic surgery in the country, according to data compiled by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

I have spent my whole life thinking my butt should be smaller. Perhaps we need to heed the words of Sir Mix-a-Lot "Baby's Got Back" and embrace the big butt that seems to be more popular then ever. And yes, we do have Kim Kardashian, Nicky Minaj and several others to thank! As I teach my kids, "people come in all different shapes and colors."
