Earlier this week, a scary incident involving an employee at a Berthoud liquor store resulted in the arrest of a local man on charges of kidnapping.

According to police, around 8:30 p.m. on February 2, a man named Will McDonough came into Berthoud Hometown Liquor, and asked an employee for a ride because his car was out of gas. McDonough was identified by employees as a store regular. An adult female employee proceeded to leave the store with McDonough, but by 10 p.m. had still not returned. Worried, another employee called the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office to report her missing.

After investigating, it was revealed that McDonough had convinced the woman to let him drive her car, but instead of going to his home, he traveled to the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel, located at 1550 Court Place. According to the police report, the woman had pleaded with him to stop driving. Upon arriving to the hotel, McDonough apparently disrupted a large group in one of the ballrooms, which then prompted more calls to police. The Denver Police Department arrived on scene and arrested McDonough for a municipal violation for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit. He was booked into the Denver City Jail that night. The LCSO obtained an arrest warrant for 2nd Degree Kidnapping on February 5. McDonough posted $20,000 bond for the warrant and was released from the Denver City Jail on Tuesday afternoon.

The Denver Police Department located the woman inside a hotel room at the Sheraton. She was found uninjured and said that McDonough didn't threaten her with his weapon. This investigation is still ongoing with the possibility of additional allegations being sought against the suspect. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Drew Weber at 970-498-5172.
