The text is just as serious as the call, and sometimes it gets to the point more quickly.

No one wants to have to call 911. That doesn't make texting it any more pleasant, but for people who have speech impairments, or could be in the (horrifying) situation where speaking isn't possible because of an injury or there is an intruder to whom you don't want to alert your presence, you can now text to 911 to let them know of your emergency.

According to the Coloradoan, Larimer County Sheriff's Office spokesman David Moore said that, when possible, people should still use voice call to be in touch with 911, but when necessary they can use text.

This can be handy, because some of Larimer County is still the wild west where cell service can be spotty. Sometimes, in more remote areas, text works when voice doesn't.

Soon, citizens will be able to text photos, and maybe even videos to 911. Since pictures and videos can be worth more than thousands of words, and piles of "he said, she said" evidence, this advancement could really help police in solving crimes, though the services are not readily available yet.
