Police are investigating a car crash involving a school bus and a "driverless" vehicle that left a 9-year-old boy injured in Syracuse, Indiana.

The boy's mother, 35-year-old Angela Kipp, was backing the car out of her driveway on September 18 when she discovered a spider on her shoulder. Alarmed, she jumped out of the car while it was in reverse.

The boy climbed into the driver's seat of the Dodge Avenger and attempted to stop the car, instead stepping on the gas pedal. The car crashed into a passing school bus.

The boy was found lying outside the Dodge Avenger when police arrived and was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition with minor head injuries.

No children were on the bus and its driver wasn't injured, police said.
