Winter Storm Warning

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DENVER CO
204 AM MDT WED OCT 26 2011

...FIRST SNOWSTORM OF THE SEASON CONTINUES FOR THE
MOUNTAINS...FOOTHILLS AND ADJACENT PLAINS AS A STORM SYSTEM MOVES
ACROSS COLORADO...

SO FAR WITH THIS STORM THE HEAVIEST SNOW HAS REMAINED NORTH OF
DENVER...ESPECIALLY FROM BOULDER COUNTY NORTHWARD THROUGH LARIMER
AND WELD COUNTIES. SPOTTERS HAVE REPORTED 4 TO 6 INCHES OF NEW
SNOW IN THESE LOCALES. MUCH LIGHTER AMOUNTS OF 1 TO 3 INCHES FROM
DENVER SOUTHWARD. SOME OF THIS HEAVIER SNOW IS STILL EXPECTED TO
DEVELOP OVER THE DENVER AREA AND POINTS SOUTH BETWEEN 3 AND 6 AM.
HOWEVER...TOTAL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS WILL BE ADJUSTED A BIT LOWER FOR
LOCATIONS FROM DENVER AND POINTS EAST.

THE SNOW SHOULD GRADUALLY DECREASE BY LATE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND
DURING THE EARLY EVENING HOURS AS THE STORM SYSTEM MOVES
SOUTHEAST OF THE REGION.

SINCE SOME TREES ALONG THE FRONT RANGE URBAN CORRIDOR AND THE
EASTERN PLAINS OF COLORADO HAVE NOT YET BECOME DORMANT AND STILL
HAVE ABUNDANT FOLIAGE...THE MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW MAY CAUSE TREE
LIMBS TO BREAK. THERE HAVE ALREADY BEEN REPORTS OF POWER OUTAGES
ACROSS LARIMER COUNTY.

SNOW AND SLUSH ARE EXPECTED TO BEGIN ACCUMULATING ON ROAD
SURFACES ACROSS NORTHEAST COLORADO BY MIDNIGHT. SNOW COVERED
ROADS AND POOR VISIBILITIES DUE TO FALLING SNOW WILL CAUSE
HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS THROUGH WEDNESDAY.

THE STORM WILL BE ACCOMPANIED BY MUCH COLDER TEMPERATURES. HIGH
TEMPERATURES ON WEDNESDAY WILL ONLY BE IN THE LOWER 30S ACROSS
THE PLAINS. LOW TEMPERATURES WEDNESDAY NIGHT WILL DROP INTO THE
TEENS. SINGLE DIGIT READINGS WILL BE POSSIBLE IN THE MOUNTAINS.

REMEMBER...A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS HAZARDOUS WINTER WEATHER
CONDITIONS ARE IMMINENT OR HIGHLY LIKELY. SIGNIFICANT SNOW
ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS
OR IMPOSSIBLE.
