Roundabouts. Not many folks enjoy them, though they are proven to ease traffic better and are safer, than traffic signals. Windsor is putting one in at a busy 4-way stop this summer. Also, things will have to get worse before they get better.

Windsor is getting ready to fix that nasty 4-way stop at 7th and Eastman Park Drive.  If you travel through Windsor a lot, like we do at the radio stations, you know what a nightmare that intersection can be. 7th takes you all the way through town; and so does Eastman (for the most part). It’ll be interesting to see how people adapt to a single-lane roundabout there. If you had 50 people in a room and asked them what they think about roundabouts, at least three of them would jump the table to strangle you.

To me, it seems the intersection needs a TWO-lane roundabout, but I’m no city planner, so I’ll shut up.  Roundabouts are safer, statistically, than regular traffic signals; and lord knows that that 4-way stop isn’t cutting it anymore, so a roundabout it is.

Here’s the kicker: The Town of Windsor wants to get this roundabout installed as quickly as possible. To do that, they will be SHUTTING DOWN THE INTERSECTION COMPLETELY! Yikes.  Things will have to get worse before they get better, apparently.

They don’t have an official ‘start-date’ for the installation of the roundabout, so beware if you need to get through Windsor. The new roundabout and other intersection improvements should be completed by August 18.
