In my opinion, Windsor has lacked a decent coffee shop ever since Alba Coffee closed in 2014. Sure, there are a couple of Starbucks, there’s Dunkin’, Nana Beas, Gibs NY Bagels.. But none really give you a feel of ‘Stay and relax for a while.’ Until now.

I was pretty excited when Dunkin’ Donuts announced they were coming to Windsor. I thought it would be great. In the end, it’s fine for a donut shop, but it’s not really a ‘coffee shop.’  So, my searching and waiting continued; to find a great coffee shop, like Alba used to be, in Windsor.  Then, I was running errands in town and was over at that strip mall behind McDonald’s where Steele’s used to be, back in the day. I noticed this place: ‘Coffee House 29.’  ‘What is this, a new coffee place? I have to check it out!’

THIS is the kind of place I’m talking about! Inviting. Lots of seating. Different kinds of seating. Bright in places, cozy in others. The space that Coffee House 29 resides in used to be The Firehouse restaurant, so there IS a lot of space.  You could go in by yourself and relax, you could bring the kids, you could have an out-of-office office meeting. The menu seems good- I like the sound of that Windsor Castle, though I’m a just a drip kind of guy.

Turns out that they have technically been open since August of 2015, but didn’t really ‘launch’ until late February of 2016. They have a punch card: buy ten, get one free.  Wednesday is ‘double-punch’ day. Alba used to have punch cards and a ‘double-punch’ day too. I’m getting all misty. Over coffee? Ya, over coffee. I think coffee lovers would understand.

When you visit Coffee House 29, be sure to ask them what the ‘29’ is about. I think you’ll leave with an even better appreciation for what they’re brewing up!
