Will You Watch the Greatest Two Minutes in Sports on Saturday?
The 139th Kentucky Derby is scheduled for 4:24 p.m. Mountain Time on NBC this Saturday, May 4th. While I know little about horse racing I do know I’ll be watching -beginning with all the pre-race coverage to choose my ‘winner’. I’m thinking Oxbow may be a good bet. He’ll be ridden by 50-year-old Gary Stevens, a three-time Derby winner who also starred with Tobey Maguire in Seabisquit in 2003. I love that movie.. Then there’s Mylute ridden by Rosie Napravnik who wants to become the first female jockey to win the Derby.
Perhaps the most famous horse to grace the stage at the Kentucky Derby happened in 1973 when Secretariat posted the fastest time ever at 1:59 and 2/5ths of a second. Not only has his time gone 30 years without being broken, but he also took the Triple Crown.
