While the number of Fort Collins residents complaining about rising rent prices seems to increase, affordable housing in place of Hughes Stadium is beginning to look more like a real possibility.

Colorado State University President Tony Frank and Senator John Kefalas tell the Coloradoan that affordable housing for CSU's lowest-paid employees is one option (of a ton, probably) being considered for Hughes Stadium when it's replaced with an on-campus stadium for the 2017 football season.

From accountants to custodians, about 1,800 classified employees work at CSU. Their salaries are determined by the State and range from around $10 to $60 per hour.

Kefalas, D-Fort Collins, says that if affordable housing is a go for Hughes Stadium, he also imagines some kind of transit system (shuttles, for example) being put in place to take employees back and forth.

Frank didn't give a specific timeline for decision-making, but this is definitely something to keep an eye on. It also raises the question of whether more affordable housing will ever be built in Fort Collins for non-CSU employees - which, in my opinion, is much needed.
