As of 4:45 p.m. firefighters have 80 percent containment on a fire burning north of Fort Collins near Wellington.

“Extremely dry conditions” caused the fire at Cobb Lake State Wildlife Area to burn out of control starting at about noon today, said Poudre Fire Authority Capt. Matt Housley. The fire is 80 percent contained, and mop-up is expected to take two to four hours, according to Poudre Fire Authority.

Earlier this afternoon, a 200+ acre wildfire was burning at Cobb Lake State Wildlife Area, near Larimer County Road 56 north of Fort Collins. The fire is threatening structures at Larimer County roads 3 and 58.  Some residents have received a reverse-911 call notifying them of the possibility they will need to evacuate and move animals, according to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.

Poudre Fire Authority, Wellington and Larimer county are all on scene.
