They can be called crayfish, crawfish, freshwater lobsters, mudbugs, and others I'm sure. They are freshwater crustaceans related closely to the lobster. We call them crawdads and we named ours Pontoon. Pontoon was a cute little thing when we found him, so we threw him in our fish tank at home with the frog, snail and other fish. Harmony happened for several weeks and then, Pontoon shed his first skin alerting us he was growing and would soon need to leave.

Just a few days later, he killed and ate our frog (video of the meal below). So, my husband took him to his work fish tank. The next day, my husband found him, dead and dried on the carpet (picture below). The little frog-eating jerk, crawled out of his tank to a dry carpet death. I'm mad because he ate my frog, then decided to escape. So now, both are dead, dare I say "murder-suicide"? Clearly, I get too attached.
